Mike Malixi and Carrie Field have been teaching Argentine Tango in Taos since 2009. Mike has been dancing Tango for 9 years while Carrie has been dancing Tango for 6 years. They have traveled to Buenos Aires many times to study from master instructors and bring their experience home. Mike and Carrie’s dance and teaching style has been influenced by their studies with Gustavo Naveira, Julio Balmaceda, Corina de la Rosa, Fabian Salas, Carolina del Rivera, Cecila Garcia, and David Cohen.
Carrie has taught Pilates, Yoga and Gyrotonic® for the last 20 years and holds certifications in all three practices. Carrie incorporates her technical understanding of the body in her Tango teaching. Mike’s Tango teaching is influenced by his years of study in martial arts. Together they are committed to building a community of dancers in Taos where they offer weekly classes, practicas and organize monthly dance events.

“We have all stood in places that made us pause and feel the earth beneath our feet — the Sacred Circle is just such a place. At the heart of El Monte Sagrado, this green space of 80-year-old cottonwood trees is said to have once been a Native American dancing ground. Flowing waterfalls, stone water sculptures, a wooden footbridge, and a trout-stocked pond invite you to stop and enjoy the moment. Lush regional plants and flowers offer a place to meditate, contemplate and relax. The Sacred Circle is also a very special venue for private events and weddings.” –Taken from the El Monte Sagrado website

“Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps build flexibility and long, lean muscles, strength and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing to relieve stress and allow adequate oxygen flow to muscles, developing a strong core or center (tones abdominals while strengthening the back), and improving coordination and balance.” –Wikipedia
It was so much fun to visit Carrie Field’s “Taos Pilates Studio” to take photographs for her website! Taos Pilates Studio offers private, semi-private, and group sessions using Pilates equipment and through mat classes. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Pilates is for everyone, the young and old, women and men, the super-fit and persons with injuries.

The El Monte Sagrado goes above and beyond to serve the most delicious and exquisite food in the Town of Taos! No matter what your event (wedding, anniversary, baby shower, etc), the El Monte allows you to come for your own personal “tasting” so you know exactly what you want (and what to expect) on your menu for your special occasion. Not only is the food incredible, but the service is unbelievable too. Allow yourself to be catered and pampered when you come to the El Monte, allow yourself to expect the best!

The doctors over at the Taos Chiropractic and Healing Center are going to be kicking off their new website soon! It was fun to take pictures of patients receiving treatments: massage, laser, physiotherapy, injection, and acupuncture. Pain problems do not discriminate and Dr. Tom, Dr. Doug, and Dr. Keith treat babies, children, adults, and the elderly.
