Gay and Lesbian Weddings — New in New Mexico!

Gay and Lesbian Weddings — New in New Mexico!

Couples are traveling to New Mexico to take advantage of the fact that this is the 17th state in the nation to honor same-sex marriages and offer gay marriage licenses. In Northern New Mexico, the attitude regarding this new law is positive and welcoming. Now that gay marriage is federally recognized, couples are coming to Taos County for their destination weddings. Many of these weddings are spontaneous elopements as couples have been together and planning the ceremonies for decades. I have been a witness for several elopements and I am honored to be a part of the license signing and the photo documentation of the day.

This couple came to Taos to elope, why? Because Taos is their favorite town in the Land of Enchantment! The day was absolutely gorgeous with that perfect Northern New Mexico warmth and breeze in the air. The wedding ceremony took place at local bed and breakfast Hacienda del Sol and the newlyweds had a lovely dinner at local restaurant, “The Love Apple.”

A Taos Plaza Wedding

A Taos Plaza Wedding

Danielle and Jon traveled from Dallas, TX to enjoy their destination wedding getaway in Taos. The weather was gorgeous and the New Mexico sky was blue. Cars honked as they drove by and store owners gave greetings of best wishes as we walked around the plaza taking photos and documenting this special day.

Romantic Setting and Green Courtyard at Hacienda del Sol

Sharon and John live in Virginia and came to Taos to elope and have their intimate destination wedding ceremony in front of beautiful Taos Mountain. This springtime wedding took place at beautiful bed and breakfast La Hacienda del Sol right on Taos Main Street. The flowers were done locally by Mercedes of Elegante Floral. There was a plaid ribbon wrapped around the bouquet that matched the Scottish groom’s tux bow tie… cool!! Congratulations to Sharon and John!!

The clouds provided beautiful natural lighting for photos with gorgeous green backdrop.
