Taos Elopement at Rio Grande Gorge

Taos Elopement at Rio Grande Gorge

Smoke from the Hermit’s Peak and Calf Canyon wildfire played with the light at this early morning wedding near the Rio Grande gorge. The brides-in-blue were excited and giddy to finally tie the knot. Dan Jones officiated the elopement and two big-horned sheep watched the women state their wedding vows.

June is Pride Month

June is Pride Month

June is Pride month and so this month I honor the LGBTQIA community! I have shot SO MANY same-sex marriages, I feel lucky!! Here is a small handful of some of the weddings that I could remember off of the top of my head. Someday my son (now seven-years-old) will be shocked that I lived in a time when gay marriage was against the law. Unbelievable. Today I celebrate diversity and I raise a glass to all of the same-sex marriages I have had the honor of documenting over the years.

Arroyo Seco Elopement

Arroyo Seco Elopement

These ladies selected northern New Mexico’s small village of Arroyo Seco their destination wedding location. The “perfect venue” can many times be the yard of the home rental that you stay in. The New Mexico sky and the various hues of sagebrush lend gorgeous, natural backgrounds for use as the altar and “church.” Local wedding shaman, Sandra Chestnutt, performed an intense ceremony and there wasn’t a dry eye. Even the photographer.

The Best Ever Ending of a Beginning

The Best Ever Ending of a Beginning

Jessica and Auda are brides from Texas who came to their New Mexico neighbors to get married in front of Taos Mountain at SpiriTaos. The photos from Jessica and Auda’s wedding are some of my favorite “end of ceremony” photos ever. Usually the married couple kisses and then walks down the aisle for the recessional. Jessica and Auda were different. Their emotion and excitement was ecstatically beautiful and so photogenic. These are 11 successive images that I captured in less than one minute at the end of this ceremony. And they are beautiful.

Double Gay Wedding in the Mountains of Taos

Double Gay Wedding in the Mountains of Taos

This was the best gay wedding ever! Dan Jones and I were thrilled to be chosen to officiate and photograph this Taos wedding. What a wonderful group of people, who had already know one another for 30 years! What a special wedding to document!
This was a destination wedding, a destination, double wedding. A destination, double, gay wedding. FUN!!!
These couples were awesome and we all hit it off immediately! The two mile hike in El Salto was beautiful and we chatted the entire way. I wore the same shirt as the bride. We both picked the same “casual” wear. A true LOL moment that will probably never happen to me at a wedding again!
Every wedding is different. Sometimes VERY different. I had a blast at this wedding and I look forward to the next very different wedding too.
